How to extend the life of your turbocharger | CarTipsandmore

 6 easy steps

  • Always let the engine idle for some time after starting.

During this time, oil is delivered to the turbocharger components, which allows you to avoid dry friction and its consequences.

  • Let the engine idle for at least 30 seconds before turning it off.

This will also help prevent oil starvation.

  • Stress the engine in sub-zero temperatures not too much for the first 5 minutes of the ride.

Give the oil time to warm up properly.

  • Replace consumables in time.

Dirty oil filters and dirty oil contain particles, which increase the abrasive wear of the elements inside the turbocharger. Replacing the air filter too late can cause the turbocharger to overheat.

  • Make sure that Lubrication system is working properly.

Oil pump failures, defective oil filter valves or leaking oil lines can lead to premature wear of the turbocharger.

  • Do not use sealant to connect the oil line flanges together.

Parts of the sealant can break out and clog the system, which can lead to premature wear of the unit due to the insufficient amount of oil in the system.
